Gjermundbu helmet, based closely on remains of the only complete helmet to have survived from the Viking age. Our rendition has been meticulously researched and updated several times as repeated observation elucidates construction. Construction is a four-plate design reinforced with a two-layer cross of light and heavy ribs topped with a spike. The brow band underlaps the skull, and the spectacle sports chiselled or inlaid decoration as an available upgrade. Our standard finish for this helmet is a bright satin finish, but alternative finishes (rough-hammered, blackened, etc.) are available on request. Our version is made of 16 gauge steel with 14 gauge reinforcing bands and a heavy 12 gauge nasal.
Additional options:
-period-specific buckle for chinstrap (+$40)
-leather suspension liner (+$60)
-alternative quilted and padded linen liner (+$200)
-rough-from-hammer or smooth satin finish (free)
-brass or silver brow inlay ($80)
-black finish ($50)
